We made it to the famous Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival on February 8, 2014 to celebrate Chinese New Year! It’s the year of the horse!
While we were waiting for the festivities to begin, we got some ice cream, but not just any old ice cream! This sweet icy treat was wrapped with cilantro and peanut brittle in thin rice paper. It sounds strange, but it was delicious! I am now forever going to spice up my ice cream with cilantro!

We even found a mural of Le Petit Prince! My favorite book in the whole wide world!
With still more time to spare before the event, we decided to release our own lantern up into the air!
Paul and I each did two sides of the lantern without looking at each others, and somehow we did practically the same design!
My side! Mine are obviously much better 😉
We watched other people’s lanterns rising into the air
And then released our own!
Then for the main event! It was so crowded, but we were happy to be together to protect against the wind, rain, and cold.
It was a beautiful sight!
